Internet activist Aaron Swartz commits suicide


Internet activist Aaron Swartz committed suicide. He was accused of stealing 4 million documents, mainly scientific journals and academic papers from MIT and made it publicly available. Authorities claim that Aaron Swartz broke into MIT’s computer network without authorization. If guilty, Aaron Swartz would have faced a fine of $ 4 million and more than 50 years in prison. He got famous for a company he founded called Infogami and for the nonprofit group Demand Progress.

Sony stops production of PlayStation 2

Sony is ending the production of the popular Playstation 2 in Japan. The device went on sale in March 2000 and ever since it has been sold for over 150 million times. It was so popular that it outsold the Playstation 3 in the first 3 years. However Sony will still continue producing games for the Playstation 2 and at the moment just stops production in Japan. Sony has not yet announced whether it will stop production in other territories as well.

Instagram kicks off New Year's Eve with worldwide photo stream

Instagram introduces worldwide photo stream on New Year allowing users to see how people around the globe are celebrating this event on their desktop optimized stream in a given time zone. Instagram photo stream can be seen on desktop devices and mobile phones, however it’s more comprehensive on the desktop than over mobile phones
